This is not going to be a clever or witty or funny post. This post is strictly about venting. Ranting. Being pissed. And letting it out.
I live within a stone's throw of Mexico, not by choice but by the GM1's job geography. I have been surrounded by the whole immigrant hoohah for nearly 20 years. I am sick unto death of it all.
Here's the latest that's thorning me. English. English IS our national language, whether mandated by the government or not. If you plan to live/work/suckle at the public teat in the United States, LEARN THE GODDAMN LANGUAGE.
Instead, some would have us bend over backwards to be "diverse" and "ethnically sensitive" and other bullshit meaning kiss assery. I quit a pretty decent job once because I was being pressured to learn Spanish. Why? So I could communicate better with the shoplifters? (Just so you know, I do speak a workable amount of Spanish, thanks to high school requirements.)
The whole thing comes down to immigrant expectations of preference when they come to the United States. We are the victims of our own public relations overdrive. America, the country that means freedom and choice, welcomes all. Okay, fine lofty ideals. But the incoming brought all their baggage with them, including the willingness to claim cultural ethnic superiority and the "right" to have it accomodated.
Bullshit.
If you want to live in the United States of America, if you want to be an American, then BECOME an American. Learn the language. Learn OUR traditions. Drop the insistance we cater to your ways. If your ways are so freaking wonderful, trot your ass back wherever you came from.
And just to wrap it up, I'm against amnesty too. So there.
