I love the memes where there are rules. Of course, if I have to read the rules four times or more, it means I need more coffee before attempting anything more than nodding my head, muttering "Mmmm, that's cool."
Disclaimer finished. Here's how it works:
Copy the list from the last person in the chain, delete the names of the authors you don't have on your home library shelves and replace them with names of authors you do have. Bold the replacements.
1. J.K. Rowling
2. William Gibson
3. Neil Gaiman
4. Neal Stephenson
5. China Mieville
6. JRR Tolkien
7. Stephen Brust
8. Dave Barry
9. Stephen King
10. William Shakespeare
The path is from A Likely Story, who got it from Llama Butchers, who got it from Jenspeaks, who found it at Fire Ant Gazette....
Cool, I have much more in common with your list than any others I have seen. Stephen Brust rules.
Posted by: owlish at January 8, 2005 08:28 AMWhat's interesting about this meme is the comparison of the lists a few generations back. Your list has some authors that appeared on earlier lists, but dropped off somewhere in between. For instance, I started out with Neal Stephenson on my list, but he dropped off the next two iterations...and now he's back.
Nobody will admit thus far that they don't have Shakespeare! ;-)

Posted by: LeeAnn at January 8, 2005 09:03 AMI have this odd habit of backtracking memes that I find interesting, and this particular one I found at Mouse Words (too lazy to link) and went back through 10 bloggers/live journals until I ended up on a LJ that didn't link to whoever he or she had gotten the meme from.
The interesting part: I wrote my list before I started backtracking and when I was done reading those 10 or so previous lists, I found out that three of the authors (beside Shakespeare who was on nearly every list, btw) on my list, had all been on the list of one of the former bloggers. Okay, so perhaps that wasn't so interesting. I sort of thought it was neat, though.

Posted by: Brass at January 8, 2005 09:32 AMWhat I really enjoy about this meme is that is opens new authors books for me. I love finding new literature.
Thanks for the trackback, LeeAnn :D
Posted by: Rae at January 8, 2005 09:55 AMWell, *I'll* cop to it -- if there's any of Willie the Shakes gathering dust in my house, I don't know where it'd be hiding out...
Posted by: LDH at January 8, 2005 02:09 PMGibson, Gaiman, Stephenson, and Mieville...awesome, awesome, awesome, and awesome. Reading Iron Council right now...in an untucked Polo shirt. :-)
Posted by: Howard at January 8, 2005 05:52 PMHa, I just picked this one up over at my site and am glad to say I put Gibson back on the list :D
