Fixer-Upper

I've been trying to catch up on my backblog (get it? back log... back blog? Too early yet? Alrighty.) and I am sensing a trend here....
I've read one screed against women who wear makeup and get their hair done, one denouncing of cosmetic surgery, one hissy fit against body piercing, and one self-righteous fuss against fashionable shoes.
Let me say here and now, so it goes on my Permanent Record, the Cheese is FOR all these things. If I'd had the better end of the genetic lollipop, maybe I wouldn't have to wish for all the time and money it would take to retailor myself into a gorgeous hunk of sizzling womanhood. As it stands, I will die before I give up my good mascara and my yummy shoes that make my legs look all modelish-chiseled.
Unreal body images forced on us by magazines and fashion empires? Balls.
Ancient Egyptians used cosmetics way before Vogue was published.
Beauty is only skin deep? Balls again. It's a 50/50 shot that the troll on the bus is a true Mother Teresa, just like it's even odds that supermodel is a puppy-kicking sociopath.
It comes down to the right to choose. I am very very much for the right to choose. I am the Pro-Choice queen, baby. And if I want to spent my time at the Lancome counter and worship Nordstrom's shoe sales, then it's my choice.
You want to go out in the world baldfaced as a newborn baby? Your choice.
But keep your judgemental paws off my belly ring.

[on knees, begging]

modelish-chiseled leg pictures, please.

You got that right. I like that if it's the weekend I can go natural, but I love the fact that when I want to get decked out I've got weapons to use. I may be 6'2" but bring them heels on! I will not go down without a fight. Age and gravity WILL NOT WIN. Heels, short skirts and makeup - thats part of what makes being a girl so fun!

AMEN sister! I don't wear makeup everday *lazy* but when I want to get dressed up, I know how to do it. Flat shoes? with my legs? no way! my legs are short enough, but at least I can give the illusion that they are longer with heels on. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I just don't like it when people try to force theirs down my throat.

Thank (insert Diety here) for all of you! (except Harvey of course) You all make this unabashed male's day a little brighter. I'm definately behind your right to choose.

Whew - I saw the Mother Teresa part and thought you might be talking about me! Yikes! I'm with you LeeAnn, I would be first in line for a total makeover (pondering... what real good would it do??? Hmmmm). I say if you have the money to spend and you enjoy wearing nice shoes and good makeup - go for it!

The other thing I can't stand is when people apologize for buying something. Like - I bought this skirt at Neiman's, but it was on sale and I had a couple of gift cards and so it only cost me... Who the hell cares? If you like it, and you can afford it, then by all means, buy it! It's good for the economy and good for you when you like what you wear!

amen. like Tammi I'm a tall chick (5 foot 11) and I adore heels. although I'm getting mighty sick of people saying "were you this tall last time I saw you?"

Erm no. I grew 3 inches overnight, can't you see the stretch marks?

And I'm addicted to super-shiny-sparkly lipgloss.

If I keep my hands far, far away from the belly piercing, can I at least lick around it? Sorry. Got all horny there for a second.

Damn Straight!!! I'm sick and tired of people having a go at us girlies for the things we like to have, shoes, make up,'piercings. If we wanna spend our cash that way then nobody can stop us!

I for one have several piercings and a tattoo, nobody would dare criticise me for them anymore... they know they'd get my heel through their foot :)

Muchos respect to your pro choice attitude girlies!

It never fails to irk me -- this new-puritan attitude about make-up and heels. Really! How could it possibly be a bad idea to maximize one's assets?? Especially when it makes us feel good.

Those poor, make-up-less sods in their sensible shoes. Pah! Life is for *fun*!!
